Hi! I'm recording 6 new original songs! And with your help, I can produce it to industry standard and dedicate the necessary funds to marketing and promotion so the project hits the ground running...I have written what I know is a rather long narrative below explaining in much detail (See the 'About This Project' section of this page). About This Project
" For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future". - Jeremiah 29:11
When I took a step of faith to pursue music professionally in 2015, I honestly didn't realise what I had signed up for. Like a soldier being drafted to fight for his country overseas, I felt true patriotism for the kingdom of God wash over me. Fearful but full of child-like optimism, I stepped out. I had decided to stop running and finally embrace my calling! Surely, the red carpet would roll out for me as I journey down purpose lane, no? Well, little did I realise what a humbling, character building journey this was going to be. Indeed, God was not after my assignment (though it is His will i complete it). He was after my heart. This journey has truly been a one started in love and is still being sustained by love.
In spite of the many hills and valleys I have been through these last two years, music is a love language I understand well and have been privileged to share with my world. And in so doing, inspire folks who were just as lost as me, run their race and fulfil purpose. This is my true passion! So I really wasn't surprised when I started writing this new body of music. Several layers have been stripped off to reveal a depth of realness I didn't even know I had or would have the audacity to share. And the scary, exhilarating truth is, there's so much more where that came from!
Truth about being an Independent Artist
Simply put, an independent artist assumes the task and responsibilities of a record label. That includes, contracting professionals to produce, mix and master design covers, shoot videos, take official photos, market etc. One major, obvious difference though is the money. Record labels usually wield more financial clout and can offer advances to artists so they can create. In the absence of a record label, an independent artist copes by wearing as many hats as possible, calling in favours and creating campaigns such as this one while also possibly maintaining a regular 9-5 to help with living expenses. Believe it or not, It could take years before an independent artist begins to see any profit from their craft. Another way independent artists get by is to hop on great deals like the one I was offered by Resound Media. I had worked with one of their producers before and if you know anything about working with other creatives especially producers, you would agree that finding people who 'get' you- people you are in sync with- is probably the holy grail of creating art. So, I would have been foolish not to jump when they presented the opportunity to record these songs at just half the normal price.
Why should you support me?
Hm. That's probably a question only you can answer. It could be because you love my big smile (I don't mind, honestly!) :). But a little part of me hopes it's because you love and support what I do, at the very least. At most, I'm hoping you really see my heart and where God is taking me and I'm hoping you would like to be a part of this incredible ride, right from the start! Who knows? The songs you help me birth today could impact our generation in a massive way tomorrow.
My 'Asking' Issues
I dilly-dallied on whether to actually put this here. But since I'm being all open and vulnerable, I felt I might as well. It wasn't until I started working on this page i realised I had a very biiiiiiiiggg problem with asking. Not just asking but asking for help. Even binging on books on the subject matter, didn't help much. Why do I fear the dreaded 'No' so much? But slowly (any slower and i might just go crazy!) it is beginning to occur to me that i am not worse off if someone did decide not to support me. But what if they do??? So I might as well ask...so there! Ha! I think I am getting pretty good and preaching to myself :)
The Plan
I hope to raise £5,000 or more in this campaign. THAT is a lot of money, I realise and I don't take this goal lightly. But I am confident that we can make this happen! Making a living as an artist can be tough because people tend to undervalue your worth and your ability to create. My goal is to compensate these artists for their time and talent. The goal is a lined out budget for:
- Producing
-Mixing
- Mastering
- Publishing
-Merchandise Production
- Promotional Content through Photography
- Music Video
- Paypal Fees
-Marketing and Promotion
Any extra money we raise will ABSOLUTELY go back into the music. If we’re able to get further funding, set up more shows or even a tour for this project in the around the UK
Basically, the goal of £5000 is the bare minimum it will take to make this release what it needs to be to hit the ground running.
